Birding Lunch Hour Newport Oregon- Feb 2012

Back in the winter of 2011 I was called upon to try the toughest case of my career.  We started on Jan. 4, and finished at the end of March.  Brutal, and a poor result.  The heck of it is that it is now June of 2013 and we still don't have a final judgment from the court.  Long story, but we have been back to Newport numerous times to argue motions.  One day in Feb. of 2012, I was down on a motion, and went out at lunch time and caught a few winter birds at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.  Here they are:

Red Shouldered Hawk.   Not super rare here, but I had not seen one outside of Florida until this.  Really fun.

The Surf Scoter

A Western Gull who kept flying up in the air with a crab in it's beak and dropping it on the rock until both it and a Crow had a meal.

And a Brandts Comorant

Way more fun than the trial work!
